Garage Door Installation GuideA Garage doors consist of a variety of materials, finishes and sizes. Selecting the correct garage door is important. Always try to match features of your property. A well presented garage door and can add value and improve the aesthetic presentation of your property.
Size
The garage opening and the frame size are the two important elements of any garage door installation. Standard single door sizes are for openings sizes between 6'6" and 8'0" wide in 6 inch increments.
Door Frames
Garage doors are normally fitted into a timber frame. The frame is secured to the surrounding blockwork and is painted to a colour preference.
If you are fitting a new door into an existing timber frame it should be thoroughly checked for :
- soundness of the timber (check the bottom of the uprights where Retractable gear fittings will be located) - dimensional squareness - security of the installation.
If you suspect the frame has any weaknesses or faults, replace the frame. This will prevent any structural failures in future years.
Installing a new garage door can be made easier by planning your installation and by having a second person helping with lifting or positioning. Planning your installation involves:
- Having the correct tools (spirit level, hammer, drill, spanners, hack saw, wire cutters, tape measure, screw drivers, step ladders, gloves and safety glasses) - Reading the installation instructions
Garage doors are always fitted from the inside, so ensure that you have a clear working environment. Always ensure the door is level and square in the opening. This is the most important aspect of the installation.
