New regulations regarding safety of garage doors

Garage doors that are past their heyday, generally feature out-of-date technology and often hold hidden hazards. These occur, for example, as a result of externally guided cables, which open and close the door or through gaps between the individual door sections on sectional doors. These type of hazards, can put children, in particular at risk, possibly leading to injuries as a result of getting trapped, crushed or cut. It is the objective of the new Product Standard EN 13241-1, which comes into force on 1st May 2005 to increase protection against such injuries. It stipulates that garage doors must offer finger-trap protection, side trap guards and an anti-fall safeguard. A further requirement is a cut-out mechanism that stops the automatic door on encountering an obstruction.
